Can a landlord restrict me from putting bamboo shades in the patio?
My landlord in an apartment complex says I "can not alter the appearance of the exterior of the apartment". The agreement doesn't mention anything about using shades in the patio. The shade partially hides the space between the roof and a 3ft fence.
Does he have a right to demand that I take off the shades? If so what kind of paperwork is necessary to prove it?
Also, a few days ago they cutted down a tree in a patio below me that provided some shade to my patio, but didn't ask for my consent to do so.
He doesn't need your consent to alter the common grounds of the property...he owns, you rent, you didn't rent the tree and the shade probably wasn't listed in your lease as being protected.
Yes, he can prohibit you from putting up bamboo shades on the exterior because he doesn't want anyone putting up their own decorations that can be seen from the outside.
He doesn't need anything to "prove" it. It's already in your lease. When it says you cannot alter the exterior of the apartment, that means ANYTHING...
