Help with outdoor pictures for an (extremely) amateur picture taker?
I'm looking for help with outdoor pictures. I got a digital camera for XMas, one of those hard plastic wrapped small ones. I used it a lot outside and almost all the pictures came out too bright, some to the point they were unkeepable. Is this because the quality of the camera or is there a setting I can change? I don't need/want anything pro quality, just something that's clearly visible. I saw a Kodak EasyShare 8.1mp for about a hundred, should I move up to that (or something else) or just fiddle with mine? I take pictures about once every couple of months so I dont need anything fancy.

Some cameras have an exposure adjustment, or maybe several modes, one of which is for sunlight. Look at the manual. Some cameras even have a setting for beaches or snow, which are brighter than sunlight, and if so, that's the one you should use.
My own camera, which is a fancy expensive one, sometimes overexposes in bright sunlight. I think this is just something digital cameras do. But it shouldn't be to the point where you don't want to keep the pictures!
If you have picture editing software, almost every picture you take will benefit from adjusting levels, brightness and contrast. Of course it's an extra step, added effort for the -extremely- amateur photographer, but it can probably save those pictures that are really badly overexposed.
I don't like to knock a product but I don't like Kodak Easyshare cameras at all. A friend of mine has TWO of them, and I find them very hard to work with. Their software wants to do everything for you, and I don't like that. Maybe they designed it to look good in a demonstration a the store. If you just want to download the damn pictures to your computer, it's almost impossible. The pictures are okay though.
