What sealant for pine picnic table in Texas?
We have a new, untreated pine picnic table that needs the best protection possible from moisture and UV... and yes, I'm expecting upkeep. Prefer a natural look (not a glossy coat) but may want to darken a bit, expect to purchase stain/seal combo. Have read responses to other wood sealing questions and noticed spar/marine varnish (urethane?) mentioned. Prefer the least toxic and environmentally sound option, yet don't want to compromise quality. Suggestions? Thank you.
Think you would have a hard time keeping spar varnish or any oil modified urethane on pine in the Texas summer. Pine simply has too much moisture in it. I would suggest any one of the brands of Timber Oil or Cabots Clear Solutions.
