My younger dog is protective and barks at other dogs.. should we try to take her to a dog park?
We took our beagle to the dog park once and she ignored the other dogs, went off to the corner to sniff, and then went to the other owners for lovin... LOL
We now have another little terrier/chihuahua who barks at other dogs in our area, but she's very shy in public (non-home) situations. Would she benefit from a romp at our dog park? I don't want her to get nasty with another dog, but at the vet she never barks or gets weird towards other dogs... it's only at home. I really want to socialize her. Girl needs it. Beagle - well she's on her own I guess.. ha
This is typical behavior for that breed of dog. They are people pleases but protective of their turf. I don't think it will hurt to try, but keep her on a leash the first few times, even inside the fenced dog area, until she is use to going there and seeing other dogs. If she gets distressed or too excited then take her home and try again another day.
