Can a beanbag chair be made out of packing peanuts?
My roommate and I had this idea: but I was told that peanuts don't hold up well to pressure and would lose their shape. What do you think?
Well, they are used for shipping in packages to ease the bumps and falls an item has to normally take. They are not make for full-proof protection. It also depends on the weight that you plan to put on the beanbag. If one weighs about 180 pounds, and you have a big enough beanbag (lets say 6-8 ft diameter), it would be possible for the peanuts to absorb most, if not all of the weight and still keep their form. Eventually, they would break down from normal use, but that will take a while. A good idea would be to fill the beanbag 75% peanuts and 25% air. The air would eventually leak out of the bag, and a nice imprint would be left for one to sit comfortably in.
